In an interview with BGR India , Micromax’s co-founder Rahul Sharma spilled some beans on the
future plans of the company’s sub-brand, YU. As
per the report, after receiving an over-whelming
response for the YU Yureka, the brand is now working on its second device. The upcoming YU phone is being developed under the codename “ Project Caesar” , and will be launched in the country next month.
Sharma didn’t reveal a lot about the Project Caesar, but he did mention that the smartphone will run on the Android Lollipop-based version of
CyanogenMod OS. He also noted that the YU brand is not just about smartphones, and people can expect YU branded wearable devices in the coming months.
“Micromax already had tailwind behind it and
were growing in numbers month after month,
quarter after quarter. We were thinking about
what’s next and we wanted to target a different
set of users – the tech natives and digital natives
– the nerds. They want to customize their
phones. What were we doing for them? And with
that thought YU was born,” Sharma explained to
BGR India .
Micromax launched its online-only sub-brand Yureka in December last year. The YU Yureka is the first smartphone from its subsidiary, which is an affordable 4G LTE-enabled feature-loaded device priced at Rs 8,999, the YU Yureka is being offered exclusively on Amazon
India in weekly flash sales. In last week’s flash sale, the vendor sold 30,000 units of the Yureka in six seconds, while its next flash is slated for March 5th.
